Delegation

Delegation We all reach a point where we feel there aren't enough hours in the day and wonder if we'll ever find the time to get things done. Workloads seem heavier, deadlines seem increasingly shorter, and your Work-Life balance seems about as realistic as your paperless office. Perhaps then it is time to prioritise your workload and consider delegating appropriate tasks and jobs to others. However, like most things in life, there are positives and negatives, and learning how to delegate successfully is an art in itself. Delegation is a vital skill for all levels of personnel, especially team leaders and managers. Genuine delegation leads to a team owning its success, and increasing its capacity for achievement. Learning to delegate work assignments effectively is one of the most important - and sometimes most difficult - skills for a manager to develop. Your main obstacle may be the thought that you are taking a risk - giving up control, giving up part of your authority, and perhaps losing responsibility for any success achieved. Nevertheless, delegating responsibilities frees up your time and helps other people's skills and capabilities. The American economist, JK Galbraith once famously said, ‘Meetings are indispensable when you don't want to do anything'! How many of us, I wonder, would disagree with him? Meetings are an integral part of the business environment. They allow us to discuss critical issues, for strategic planning, mediation, team building in fact almost every facet of business is determined by the outcome of a meeting. So, why do so many of us consider our meetings as a forum for endless, unproductive discussion? Facilitation is a collaborative process to help delegates discuss issues, identify and achieve goals and complete tasks in a mutually satisfactory manner. Facilitation offers a wealth of positive resources for meetings; objectivity, inspiration, motivation, mediation and so on. It allows a third party to steer the meeting impartially and with neutrality, translating and reflecting the views and opinions of delegates to bring your meeting to a satisfactory conclusion. Whether you are aspiring to be someone who facilitates meetings or run your own team, you can achieve this better when you have 100% confidence in yourself and how you look. One of the best ways to do this is to eat health and train steadily with people such as Sam O'Sullivan By increasing your fitness and health, you increase your confidence which you can utilize directly into your working life.
